Settling the lengthy legal battle between Ford and some of its enraged owners over defective vehicles equipped with PowerShift, the Thailand court passed a ruling in the owners’ favour and demanded the company to initiate a compensation to the tune of $720,000.

Reports suggest that about 300 of Ford owners faced problems with the company’s Powershift-equipped vehicles. Compensation for each of the customers will range from $800 to $8,000 based on the number of times that the car has gone to the dealership for service and repairs.

As per reports, some of the affected customers were even demanding the company to buy back the cars from them along with a combined compensation of $18.5 million

Some of the models that are affected by the defect are Ford Fiesta, Focus (TDCI variants and 2012-2015 models), and EcoSport, all of which are equipped with the DPS6 dual-clutch transmission.

“We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the Powershift transmission problems and we reiterate that we will work earnestly to take responsibility for fixing them according to our customer service procedures,” said the company in a statement.

This, however, is not the first time that Ford has found itself in a bowl of hot soup. Prior to this, the American auto giant had to compensate with $72,474,50 in Australia for mishandling repairs and refunds.
