Commuters around the Dubai Marina and Media City can breathe a sigh of relief now as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced parking reservation system on its Android smartphone application that would help numerous people save time and fuel.
The application is currently being tested in Dubai’s two of the busiest areas with six reserved slots in each area. RTA confirmed that the application will be available in the iOS app store as well in the next ten days.
To avail the services, motorists must log onto the RTA Dubai mobile app and click on the ‘Parking Services’ tab. This then leads to an interactive map that depicts the available parking space in the areas. According to the RTA, tariffs for the parking are AED 10 per hour and an additional AED 10 for each hour. However, to avail the service, commuters must make sure that they have an account with RTA and enough balance to pay for the service.
Osama Al Safi, Director of Parking at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said: “Users of the app know that the vehicle details are already stored in the app, which will be used to book a slot in the zone required. Misuse of the slots or parking at the spaces reserved for this service without paying will attract a fine of AED 1,000”.
