In what could be a surprising outcome of Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s distracting missteps, reports suggest that the American EV giant has posted a surge in its electric-car deliveries in the third quarter.
Sales figures of the company’s electric-vehicles doubled in the third quarter compared to the second to 83,500 vehicles. However, out of the total sales, 55,840 were Model 3 sedans. These sales figure fell in the range of Tesla’s forecast as the company began mass-manufacturing the sedan. This could prove as a turning point for Musk who took the fate of the company towards an unprecedented instability with his tweet about taking the company private.
It was not long ago when Musk settled fraud charges brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission by agreeing to pay a sum of $20 million and step down as the company’s chairman.
Tesla’s production figures for the third quarter fell in line with the company’s forecast for the third quarter with 53,239 models. Apart from that, the company also sold 8,048 of the sedans in transit to customers.
Tesla has been putting its neck out to boost deliveries before the end of third quarter with incentives such as free-charging and referral-program perks to entice purchases.
Apart from its sales in the US, the company has been facing difficulties to thrive in the Chinese market due to new tariffs that might call for an accelerated investment in its factory in Shanghai.
