The crown prince in the supersport segment of McLaren could be soon getting a soft-top variant. The British company on Wednesday teased a photo showcasing the achingly-beautiful bonnet of the car saying “A new McLaren supercar is set to raise the roof next month”.

Any petrol head could scratch their chins at ‘raise the roof’ in the above announcement. Of course, the company is talking about a drop-top variant. The new model of the 720S is confirmed as the second model under McLaren’s Track25 business plan.

Commencing the business plan was the recently unveiled Speedtail that was pearl-clutching in every way. The hybrid ‘Hyper-GT’ sure garnered plenty of attention for its peculiar body and mind-boggling specs. The radically-styled $2.27 million car was an addition to the company’s Ultimate Series of hypercars said to be capable of 330kph and restricted to just 106 units.

In the same plan-sheet, McLaren is planning to launch 18 cars by the year 2025, marking as the same year by which it plans to go fully electric. The Spider version of the 720S is scheduled for a December 8 launch which seems like a rather strange choice to unveil a convertible sports car considering grandmas will be knitting sweaters for their grandchildren.

We expect the upcoming car to sport the same engine that the current 720S features. The car is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that delivers a staggering 710hp and 770Nm of torque.
