Cadillac just unveiled its latest product in the three-row crossover segment following its decade-old SRX that went off the boil in 2016. The 2020 Cadillac XT6 is squarely aimed at its prime rival in the segment, Lincoln Aviator.
Cadillac unveiled the XT6 just ahead of the Detroit Auto Show. The American luxury carmaker’s newest product plays it safe with conservative exterior design. It is safe to say that the XT6’s boxy silhouette would make for a spacious cabin. Indeed, the 2020 Cadillac XT6 boasts of more headroom and legroom than its rivals, at 945mm and 750mm respectively. The XT6 beats the Acura MDX and Audi Q7 on both counts, also offering more headroom than Infiniti QX60.
With the 2020 XT6, Cadillac now has a comprehensive SUV range now, four-model strong.
Upon launch, Cadillac will offer two trims of the XT6: Premium Luxury and Sport. The luxury trim is self-explanatory: the Cadillac XT6 Premium Luxury trim is a higher-end model than Sport which does away with brightwork in favour of darker design elements. However, there is no performance upgrade to the XT6 Sport trim.
As for powertrains, there is only one that makes sense for the three-row crossover. Cadillac will plonk its 3.6-litre V6 in the XT6. The motor is good for 310hp and 367Nm, and should provide enough poke for the three-row luxury car. As for sizing, it slots in neatly between the range-topping Escalade and smaller XT5 in Cadillac’s lineup.
The 2020 Cadillac XT6 is fairly tech-laden but misses out on the company's signature feature: Super.Cruise.
Steve Carlisle, the president of Cadillac said in a statement, “The first-ever Cadillac XT6 delivers a compelling blend of spaciousness, safety and convenience features for customers who thrive on doing it all. It joins the all-new XT4, which has soared to the top spot in its segment, our global best-selling XT5, and the iconic Escalade to accelerate the brand’s global growth, with a spirit that is uniquely Cadillac.”
Cadillac has not announced any pricing details on the all-new XT6 yet, but it is definitely going on sale in the second half of this year as a 2020 model.
