The performance division of Italian carmaker Fiat, Abarth is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. The tuning arm has released special edition models of the 595 and 124 Spider with commemorative badging and trim.
Like most European manufacturers, Fiat has a supermini with a performance mind in its product portfolio. Mini sells the Cooper, Volkswagen has its Scirocco, even Aston Martin had a limited-edition V8-powered micro-hatchback on sale. Fiat’s erstwhile 500 hatchback is now the 595. And Abarth has taken it and tuned it to make 180hp, making it capable of cracking the ton in 6.7 seconds.
Abarth has now been in business for 70 years, with the special edition 595 and 124 range commemorating the milestone.
Abarth will debut its 70th-anniversary range at the opening of the 2019 World Rally Championship, Monte Carlo. The entire 595 range which consists of Turismo, Competizione, and Pista trims will be fitted with a commemorative “70th Anniversary” badge for the 2019 model year. Competizione and Pista models also get an updated 7-inch touchscreen with inbuilt Abarth Telemetry. A Record Monza exhaust and Koni suspension are also on offer.
Each model of the Fiat 124 range, including the 124 Spider and 124 GT, also receives anniversary badging along with a Record Monza exhaust. Fiat is also offering a series of exclusive paint options with names like “Turini 1975 White” and Costa Brava 1972 Red”. The colour names indicate Abarth’s victories at different motorsports events.
The Abarth 124 GT “70th Anniversary” edition gets a carbon-fibre folding hardtop, 17-inch OZ Ultra-Light alloy wheels, along with gunmetal-finish mirror caps and splitter. Optionally, you can spec the car with a matte-black bonnet, carbon fibre mirror caps and a carbon fibre splitter.
The Abarth 124 gets subtle cosmetic tweaks to mark its special-edition identity. Mechanical updates are not on the cards.
Lastly, Abarth is offering 595 owners 20 percent off select accessories like a pair of “70th Anniversary” carbon fibre kick plates. 124 Spider owners benefit from 30 percent savings on the purchase of a transverse strut bar. The offer is valid until 30th June 2019.
Abarth will reveal pricing and full specifications for all of the “70th Anniversary” commemorative range in the coming months.
