MG Motor signed off 2018 as a milestone year of success in its Middle Eastern operations. The firm recorded an impressive 453 percent surge in sales compared to 2017.

MG Motor’s three new models for 2018, namely the RX5, facelifted GS, and all-new MG6 contributed to the landmark sales. Commenting on the brand’s substantial success, Tom Lee, Managing Director for SAIC Motor Middle East, said: “Our commitment to the region has been cemented by the very positive results of 2018, and we intend to build on this success further as we establish MG as a household name in the years to come.

MG Motor has 20 showrooms and 21 service centers across the Middle East.

“As a relatively young brand in the Middle East, and with the current challenging market conditions, we are very encouraged by the acceptance of the brand – especially in our biggest market, KSA, where in particular, the MG ZS has performed very well and is the second biggest selling model in its segment.”

Indeed, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was MG’s strongest performer, clocking a huge 764 percent sales jump year-on-year. This momentous growth was possible in part because of the Royal Decree that came into effect in 2018, allowing females to drive on the roads of Saudi Arabia. This opened MG Motor to an untapped audience, translating into sales.

Says Tom Lee about the decree, “We have noticed a very strong brand appeal amongst female motorists; 21 percent of all MG owners in the Middle East are female, and around half of our all-new MG6 owners are women. We can almost certainly attribute these statistics to our fresh, contemporary approach to car design which has a clear appeal to our female customers.”

The UAE was an equally impressive market in 2018 for MG Motor, becoming home to a new flagship showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road. It saw a 122 percent increase in sales year-on-year. But MG Motor isn’t stopping at that. The brand has three models in the pipeline for 2019: a C-segment compact sedan, a feature-packed crossover, and a full-size seven-seater SUV.

Paired with a competitive warranty package covering cars for six years or 2,00,000km, MG Motor is primed for further expansion in the Middle East.
