How much should a tribute to perfect technology and perfect design cost? Bugatti thinks it is worth $18.9 million. Then again, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire is probably worthy of the exorbitant price tag.
Bugatti built this one-off Chiron for a customer. Inspired by the iconic Bugatti Type 57, the La Voiture Noire is a frankly astounding car with specifications to match. Perhaps a reference to children’s cartoons would be wrong here, but this Bugatti would definitely catch the fancy of one Bruce Wayne.
It is abundantly clear where the Bugatti La Voiture Noire draws its inspiration from.
So what do you get for almost $19 million? The short answer: you don’t get anything because the Bugatti La Voiture Noire is already sold to one lucky (and wealthy) customer. Bugatti President Stephen Winkelmann describes La Voiture Noire as “automotive haute couture”. It is cloaked predominantly in black, with a central chrome strip running down its length. This strip is a clear homage to the iconic Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic’s dorsal seam that ran from the car’s grille to its taillamps. Based on the Bugatti Divo, this one-off also features all-LED lighting for mean-looking front and rear fascias.
At the rear especially, the taillamps form a continuous strip across the car’s width. Following the lines of the special-edition Divo’s rear haunches and deck, the LED strip imparts a menacing aura to the hypercar. And we know those six exhaust pipes poking out of the diffuser are clearly a nod to the Atlantic’s exhaust arrangement. The only difference is that the Type 57 had five pipes.
Following this car would be a treat to the eyes seeing as its rear fascia is exquisitely designed.
Mechanically, there are no changes to the one-off, which is essentially a Divo underneath the exotic skin. At its heart is still a quad-turbocharged 8.0-litre W16 engine making 1,500hp and 1,600Nm. The engine propels La Voiture Noire to the ton in 2.5 face-peeling seconds. But Bugatti hasn’t skimped on luxury in pursuit of performance. The one-off is a luxury grand tourer after all. No photos of the car’s interiors are available, but Bugatti claims the La Voiture Noire has “the comfort of a luxury limousine” and is “the most elegant and fastest way to travel.”
