Following a rigorous selection process, General Motors Africa and the Middle East chose AkzoNobel as its refinish partner for the region.

Established in 1792, the Netherlands-based company makes paints and coatings, setting the standard in colour and protection. Through its partnership with the American automaker, AkzoNobel will provide comprehensive technical training and network support to the professionals at the GM body shop network through its team of experts.

AkzoNobel has over two centuries of expertise in paint and protection.

Mohammed Al Fayyad, Director of Customer Care and Aftersales, GM Africa & Middle East, said: “We were seeking a refinish partner that has the proven expertise, innovative strength and quality commitment to support us. AkzoNobel’s market-leading technologies and competencies to improve body shop and network efficiency and profitability serve as an ideal fit for our requirements.”

The two companies will also work together to build a comprehensive programme of products, services and training to be delivered in three stages. AkzoNobel’s services will prove useful for GM in colour matching, quality repairs and body shop efficiency. The company uses digital colour technologies and techniques such as the Automatic Vision, MIXIT and Car beat – a digital communication system for the body shop.

The Netherlands-based company will provide technical training and network support to GM professionals.

AkzoNobel’s innovation also aims at allocating a separate process for smaller refinish jobs. The company provides expertise in UV Technologies for its paints alongside innovations that would help conserve inventory resources.

Stephen Saywell, Protective Coatings Director, AkzoNobel MEA, said: “We are thankful to GM Africa & Middle East for this partnership that highlights our world-class competencies in providing not just high-quality products but also innovative technology and training support. We have proven strengths across a wide range of approvals and in supplying vehicle refinish products as well as our value-added solutions that will contribute to greater accuracy, efficiency and profitability for GM’s network in the region.”
