Concept cars have commanded equal attention at the Geneva International Motor Show as hypercars and EVs. Among the concepts, Subaru showcased a rather interesting crossover.
The Subaru Viziv Adrenaline concept debuts an evolution of the brand’s current design language. It looks like a tough and hardy take on the Impreza-based Crosstrek.
Literature accompanying the Subaru Viziv Adrenaline concept might be full of fluff, but the concept itself looks purposeful and robust.
Subaru is playing its cards close to its chest regarding the funky blue crossover. Whether the Viziv is an entirely new model or is a beefed-up Crosstrek is unclear right now. The Japanese carmaker has focused mainly on the new style elements of its latest concept. An evolution of the company’s Dynamic x Solid design language which came out in 2014 is present on the Viziv.
So what is the Subaru Viziv Adrenaline concept all about? It is a five-door high-riding crossover that looks like it foreshadows the next-generation Crosstrek. A significant portion of the rear doors integrates with the rear wheel wells, so much that the concept looks like it has two regular and two half-doors, like a pickup truck. Overhangs on both ends are minimal but high enough that the Viziv Adrenaline can boast impressive approach and departure angles.
The front wheel arches dominate the front fender, merging perfectly with the headlamps. Both sets of lamps are more rakish than modern Subaru cars show off. It’s an interesting design, and so is the relatively restrained (but still bold) cladding over the rear wheel arches. Tyres are from Bridgestone, and black centre-locking rims also contribute to the Subaru Viziv Adrenaline’s character.
The concept also foregoes a floating roof which is currently every other manufacturer’s favourite design detail. Instead, the crossover adopts a bold, aggressive D-pillar with a contrasting white roof. The rear hatch is small and positioned high up to make space for the high rear bumper with ample cladding and protection.
The Viziv Adrenaline boasts of impressive approach and departure angles. Is it time for a hardcore off-road crossover from Subaru?
While there is not much more to go on than what we covered above, the Subaru Viziv Adrenaline concept certainly does look interesting. The first Viziv STI concept previewed the next-gen Subaru Impreza, while the Viziv Tourer was a five-door wagon. It will be interesting to see which car inherits the latest Viziv’s design details.
