With the advent of New Energy Vehicles (NEV) in a market that is shifting towards alternative powertrains, MG Motor has rolled out its first all-electric EZS SUV globally.
In its petrol guise, the EZS is already a Middle East favourite and will be the first model in the company’s line-up to feature the new innovative EV technology. MG’s parent company SAIC Motor is currently the only automaker in China that is simultaneously developing electric vehicles, plug-in electric hybrid vehicles and fuel cells. The company has launched more than 20 NEVs till date and sold more than 140,000 of them in 2018, up 120 per cent over the previous year.
The all-electric EZS will hit the showrooms later this year.
In 2018, MG Motor brought a plug-in hybrid version of its popular RX5 SUV to the region for hot weather testing. The successful assessment process which was conducted across Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE hinted how ready the company was to deliver EVs that can stand the challenging climate of the Middle East.
The electric variant, which is already on sale having returned healthy sales in China, will hit the showrooms globally later this year. Powering the car is a single electric motor that drives the front wheels churning out 148hp and 350Nm of torque. It gets from 0-50kph in 3.1 seconds and has a range of 428km on a full charge.
