In our second episode of Autofocus, we welcome Dr. Petar Stojanov, a Quantum Physicist turned Disruptive Innovation Expert, Futurist In Residence at Hyperloop Transportation Technologies and Managing Partner of Ebtikaar, a highly specialized advisory bringing disruptive innovation and exponential decision making to the public and private sectors.

Dr. Stojanov has highlighted how the scientific method can be applied outside that domain to solve complex innovation challenges faced by companies and industries today. Speaking about disruptive innovation, Dr. Stojanov says that the logical end of most problems faced by businesses today is disruptive innovation. Nimble start-ups that are emerging today are doing so because they realize that there’s a better way to solve a problem for a customer than perhaps the legacy methods.

"Vehicle usage and driver data is going to be a new avenue for monetisation because with all this data that’s being generated, there will be new opportunities to monetise it."

When it comes to the future of mobility, we have to address a number of existential questions: How is the value chain evolving? What do players in the automotive industry need to work on? How does one go about building a culture and mindset of innovation?

When it comes to the future of automotive, with all the data available out there, smart cities can use vehicle sensor data, government databases, traffic management data and combine this with other databases and the coalescence of all of that together will give us a really detailed picture to make decisions on strategy and so from an automotive perspective.

Interestingly, when we talk about connectivity and that’s one of the biggest areas that companies are working on both in terms of connectivity of the driver versus the vehicle, but also the vehicles talking amongst themselves. This is going to be a new avenue for monetisation because with all this data that’s being generated, there will be new opportunities to monetise it. Somebody will look at it and somebody will analyze it and find ways to improve their services and customer experiences.
