Bentley previewed the stunning EXP 100 GT at its home in Crewe. The concept car looks to the future of luxury mobility as one of the world’s most sought after luxury brands celebrates its centenary.

The Bentley EXP 100 GT is a physical embodiment of the Bentley brand, setting the benchmark for sustainable luxury mobility that is autonomous and electric. Bentley has left no stone unturned to ensure that its newest halo car toes the line with the best when it comes to advanced technologies.

Electric Powertrain, Autonomous Drive

The future is electric: there are no two ways about it. Although autonomy is still quite a ways away, the fact is that driverless cars can take to the streets right from today owing to their advanced algorithms. The only factor keeping them off the streets is the lack of a suitable ecosystem to ply in. Bentley is aware of both the facts, and as such has introduced autonomy and an electric powertrain to the EXP 100 GT.

Bentley EXP 100 GT reimagines the Grand Tourer for the world in 2035, by when it believes it will be a world of share luxury experiences where driver and passenger enjoy equal status in their enjoyment of their extraordinary journeys. The powertrain propelling the car boasts of zero emissions, with Crewe predicting a range of 700km.

What makes the concept truly unique is the addition of artificial intelligence to the package. With an emotionally active AI, the Bentley EXP 100 GT captures extraordinary human journeys and allows them to be relived. The AI is called Bentley Personal Assistant, and is also tasked with monitoring the occupants’ well-being.

Intelligent, Powerful, Sustainable - That's how Bentley envisions a Grand Tourer of the future.

Bentley has been making luxury grand tourers for the past 100 years now, and has put all it has learned in the new EXP 100 GT concept. If this is how Bentley sees future touring cars, we will be prepared to welcome exceptionally handsome, powerful, and opulent cars from the British marque.

Advanced Materials, Traditional Luxury

Bentley has always prided itself on creating one of the most luxurious, thoughtful, and versatile interiors on the market. Bentley cars’ interiors are not just cabins, they are opulent living spaces. Traditional British craftsmanship is on proud display throughout Bentley cabins, from hand-stitched leather upholstery to the intricate wood panelling on the dashboard, to elegant metal trims peppered around.

For its future direction in luxury, the Bentley EXP 100 GT makes use of revolutionary materials that impart luxury without impacting the environment. The paint, for instance, on the halo car is made from recycled rice husks. The leather-like textile used to upholster the seats is fully organic, while British Farmed Wool carpets and embroidered cotton interior surfaces adorn the grand tourer of the future.

Future-Forward Design

Carbon fibre and aluminium play a major role in shaping the Bentley EXP 100 GT. Crewe has also included copper and aluminium for interior trims, which are both sustainable materials. They are also a nod to founder W. O. Bentley’s choice of materials to create the alloy for his famous BR1 Aero engine piston that played a pivotal role in capturing the air theatre in World War I.

The doors open out and upwards in scissor style, making for easy ingress and egress in the GT. Door design prevalent today is not ergonomically correct, so Bentley eliminated rear doors entirely, replacing them with single, massive scissor doors on either side.

The Bentley EXP 100 GT’s expressive lighting elements are both dynamic and dramatic. The Flying B logo comes to life as one approaches the car, with light playing across the grille, through the mascot, along the central spine on the bonnet, leading into the cabin itself. At the rear, a ‘horseshoe’ section of the boot is a 3D OLED screen on which lighting effects blend in with rear lamps. It is almost like the car is alive.

Making the switch to sustainable materials for interior trims does not have to mean that traditional craftsmanship should take a backseat.

Adrian Hallmark, Bentley Chairman and CEO, said, “Today, on our Centenary, we demonstrate our vision of the future of our Marque, with the Bentley EXP 100 GT – a modern and definitive Grand Tourer designed to demonstrate that the future of luxury mobility is as inspirational and aspirational as the last 100 years.

“Bentley has, and will continue to enhance and enrich every single journey and the lives of every single person who travels in, or has the honour to be a part of creating our extraordinary products.”

Stefan Sielaff, Director of Design also had a few words about the halo car, saying: “The Bentley EXP 100 GT represents the kind of cars we want to make in the future. Like those iconic Bentleys of the past, this car connects with its passengers’ emotions and helps them experience and safeguard the memories of the really extraordinary journeys they take.”

An inspiring blend of performance, technology and craftmanship, the Bentley EXP 100 GT is a beautiful, immersive and emotionally intelligent experience.
