British marque MG Motor has announced that it will be launching three new models in the Middle East, which includes the MG 5, MG HS, and MG RX 8 – all of which will arrive at local dealerships in the second half of this year. Upon its launch in the regional market, the MG 5 compact sedan will become the carmaker’s latest entrant into the B-segment, one of the most competitive classes in the industry. The all-new MG HS is the brand’s newest mid-size crossover offering, and once launched, will effectively replace the outgoing GS model. Meanwhile, the larger MG RX 8 is poised to become the marque’s very first seven-seater family SUV.

MG Motor, which is now fully owned by the Chinese auto giant SAIC Motor, entered the Middle East for the first time back in 2015. At that point of time, the brand had only one model on offer, though that changed in the coming years — with newer models such as the MG 6, MG RX 5, MG ZS and MG GS joining the line-up. In the past four years, the carmaker has witnessed a healthy boost in its sales, whose trend only seems to be on the rise with each passing year.

A significant trend we are noticing across the globe - and even more acutely in the Middle East - is that buyers are increasingly demanding better quality, style and technological capability: all at greater value. While competitors are looking to push the boundaries to meet these expectations, I’m proud to say that customers are recognising these attributes in our dynamic model line-up and this has resulted in our relentless growth in the region. ,"Tom Lee, Managing Director for SAIC Motor Middle East.

Tom Lee, Managing Director for SAIC Motor Middle East, parent company of MG Motor, said: “A significant trend we are noticing across the globe – and even more acutely in the Middle East – is that buyers are increasingly demanding better quality, style and technological capability: all at greater value. While competitors are looking to push the boundaries to meet these expectations, I’m proud to say that customers are recognising these attributes in our dynamic model line-up and this has resulted in our relentless growth in the region. Indeed, we’re currently benefitting from a more adaptable economic climate to the extent that we now have the opportunity to confidently compete in the seven-seat segment for the first time. With these three new models arriving soon, our continued expansion into new markets and eye-catching marketing initiates we’ll be rolling out, we are really upping the intensity of our activity and I think that the coming months will be an exciting time for the MG brand.”

Amongst the upcoming three models, the all-new MG 5 is set to be the most affordable. However, despite its lower price point, the MG 5 (depending on the trim level) will still be available with features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, push button start, and parking sensors with a 360-degree surround-view camera system. Under the bonnet of the international variant of the new compact sedan, is a 1.5-litre petrol engine which produces 105hp and 135Nm of torque, with transmission chores handled by a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

While its precursor, the GS, acted as the company’s avant-garde model when it was launched in the Middle East, that torch will soon be passed on to the upcoming MG HS. Utilising the British marque’s latest design language, the all-new HS crossover SUV, claims MG Motor, “is set to become the brand’s most stylish SUV”. Also, depending on the variant chosen, customers stand to benefit from features such as lane departure warning, blind spot detection, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display, plus a Bose premium sound system among others.

Finally, the all-new MG RX 8 will be the largest offering from the brand in the region, and will offer space for up to seven occupants. According to MG, it will not only be longer, wider and taller than some of its closest Japanese competitors, but its premium appointed interior will also boast the most spacious third row in its segment. To further enhance its appeal and optimise the vehicle’s off-road capabilities, the MG RX 8 will come equipped with six different driving modes.
