The eighth edition of the program will handpick six finalists, mentored by some of the most respected designers, to showcase their winning designs at the Milan Design Week.
Lexus International has now begun accepting applications for its design competition. The Lexus Design Award 2020 will be the eighth edition of the contest. It provides a unique platform for young creators to showcase as well receive mentorship for their talents. First started in 2013, its aim has been to support new creators and their vision. The Lexus Design Award continues to grow and attract an increasing number of applicants, with entries coming in from across the globe. In the previous edition of the competition, Lexus received a total of 1,548 design proposals from 65 countries, a majority of which utilized the power of technology.
As with earlier editions, applicants will need to express how their new ideas showcase the key principles of the Lexus brand: Anticipate, Innovate, and Captivate. The designers will have to emphasize how their design works to cater to individual and societal needs. Lexus will continue to accept entries for the competition until October 14, 2019.

Subsequently, in early 2020, the company will shortlist and announce six finalists. These finalists will be flown to New York City to undergo an exclusive mentorship program with the guidance of prominent leaders from various design fields. Each finalist will also be given up to USD 25,000 to create a prototype of their winning design concept. These prototypes will then be exhibited at the Lexus Design Installation during Milan Design Week, 2020.
The Lexus Design Award culminates with the announcement of the Grand Prix winner following prototype presentations by each of the six finalists. Prototype presentations and announcement of the Grand Prix winner will happen on a world stage during Press Day at Milan Design Week. The complete list of Lexus Design Award 2020 judges and mentors will be announced in the fall of 2019.
