MG Motor has announced the launch of its latest model in the 2019 Middle East product lineup, the all-new MG HS. MG is pushing the SUV’s ‘sport’ appeal.
The arrival of the MG HS is a major step forward in MG Motor’s resurgence in the region, as the brand continues to expand its lineup to offer highly advanced range of sedans and SUVs. Tom Lee, SAIC Motor Middle East Managing Director, said, “The MG HS possesses the looks of a SUV but the soul of a sports car. As with all MGs, it is extremely well equipped, but its unique character differentiates it from other cars on the market, as well as other SUVs in the MG line-up. It is positioned to appeal to customers who are upgrading from their current vehicle and stand out from the crowd, both in terms of style and specification.”
The two-tone headlamps have a total of nine crystal LEDs each.
MG HS is a proper high-riding vehicle with a no-nonsense design. The front fascia wears a signature MG Star grille and all-LED headlamps. MG has designed a simple, bulky profile for the HS, which merges seamlessly into the tail end. The taillamps are all-LED, sitting above two oval exhaust tips recessed into the rear fender. A silver-finish diffuser sits between the pipes.
The SUV derives its design from the MG X-Motion concept which debuted in 2015 to critical acclaim. Buyers can choose between five exterior colours for their HS.
A 12.3-inch fully-digital instrument cluster sits behind the steering wheel, next to a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are integrated into the infotainment setup, which can interact with the instrument cluster. LUX trim of the MG HS gets an electrically-operated tailgate.
The interior is laid out in Bader leather from Germany. MG has chosen a two-tone finish for the cabin of the HS.
Light played an important role in how MG designed the interiors of the SUV. To that end, the HS is equipped with a panoramic sunroof and interactive ambient lighting. It features a range of different colour options, and interacts with the touchscreen and music.
A comprehensive selection of safety systems also makes the HS a credible choice in the compact SUV segment. ABS, ESP, EBD, front and side airbags, TPMS, hill-start and autohold assist together make for the HS’s safety package. Furthermore, the driver’s seat is a six-way electrically adjustable unit, while the front passenger seat gets four-way adjustments.
All trims of the 2019 MG HS are driven by a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four engine generating 231hp and 360Nm. Mated to a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the motor drives all four wheels of the LUX trim. COM trims are FWD, although paddle shifters are standard on both variants. The powerful engine, fast-shifting transmission, and bucket seats convey the sporty intent of the HS. MG has equipped the SUV with a series of driving assists such as Super Sport function and MG Sport Management Strategy.
The 2019 MG HS is now available across the Middle East. Prices start at $18,150 for the COM trim, while the LUX trim can be bought from $21,650.
