MG Motor launched its first electric vehicle for the Middle East at the recently concluded fifth International Conference on Future Mobility. The MG ZS EV is also the brand’s first all-electric car.

The Conference was an ideal platform to showcase the electric SUV considering its focus on mobility in the future. Electric propulsion has a big part to play in the near future, and MG Motor is showing its commitment towards the same with its latest launch.

Following its global debut in April this year, the MG ZS EV is now also avaailable in the Middle East.

The British-born brand, currently under the stewardship of Chinese auto giant SAIC Motor, revealed the EV at the Guangzhou Motor Show in China last November. Now the brand has readied its final production form for global markets, and will begin marketing it from 2020 onwards in the Middle East.

The MG ZS EV has a single electric motor producing 148hp and 350Nm. It gets a front-wheel-drive layout and a 44.5-kWh, water-cooled lithium-ion battery pack. MG says the SUV should offer more than 400km of driving range in real-world conditions. The ZS EV sports fast-charging capability, juicing up its batteries to 80 percent in just 30 minutes of charging.

Inside, the upholstery is predominantly black. A thick centre console accommodates the infotainment display, air-conditioning controls, drive mode selector, and storage spaces. Steering-mounted buttons operate in-car audio, telephony, and infotainment navigation. The instrument cluster is all-digital, and MG has peppered some chrome around the cabin to provide contrast to the overall dark finish.

MG ZS Electric SUV

MG Motor claims the electric SUV can drive up to 400km on a single charge.

Compared to its conventional sibling, the MG ZS EV features an evolved, distinctive design that marks it out as an electric car. There are no tailpipes, and the car’s charging port is discreetly recessed in the solid grille up front, under the MG badge. Upon its launch in the Middle East, the electric ZS will compete against cars like Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia Soul EV.
