What makes it a special edition?
Land Rover introduced the 2022 Defender Trophy Edition that pays tribute to the brand’s iconic Camel Trophy expedition. This vehicle is also an off-road truck built for the special-edition version of the Land Rover Defender.
Land Rover’s competition car, Camel Trophy, had an undeniable run from 1981 to 2000. It dominated the series most of that time. However, units were sold after a year’s competition and are now sought-after cars for collectors.
Sadly, the units would be exclusively available in North America with a starting price of $90,000. Additionally, as a limited-edition vehicle, only 220 units of the Defender Trophy will be produced.
One of the notable features of the Defender Trophy is the iconic black and yellow livery of the Camel Trophy. Initially, each competition car has a Camel logo on its doors. However, land Rover couldn’t use the cigarette branding, so the British brand designed a new logo for the Defender Trophy Edition.
What’s under the hood?
2022 Defender Trophy Edition similarly looks like the 399-hp V8-powered Defender Works V8 Trophy that the brand unveiled this year. It features an optional expedition roof rack, a deployable ladder mounted to the C-pillar, skid plates, an integrated air compressor, and a dealer-installed winch accessory. Moreover, it also flaunts mud flaps, a front under the shield, an Off-Road Capability Pack, and a cold climate package.
Under the Trophy Edition’s hood is a 3.0-litre incline 6-cylinder engine based on the 2022 Defender 110 P400 X-Dynamic SE. This can be used both on a turbocharger and an electric supercharger that produces 395 horsepower. Apart from its four-wheel drive, it is also capable of 406 lb-ft of torque.
It is equipped with various off-road equipment, including all-terrain tires, air springs, and an electronically controlled read differential. For its innovative feature, it has an off-road drive mode and 360-degree cameras as digital trail spotters.
What does each buyer get?
Interestingly, each buyer gets a chance to be in an off-road competition at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. An entrance opportunity to a one-day off-road adventure in the Land Rover U.S. Trophy Competition on October 11.
With 90 teams to compete, competitors will face several on- and off-road challenges. In addition, this will include physical and team-building obstacles. Winners will have to compete again in another Land Rover Trophy Competition at Eastnor Castle, the U.K, in early 2022.
President and CEO of Jaguar Land Rover North America, Joe Eberhardt said, “The Defender Trophy Edition evokes the spirit of adventure with an array of off-road accessories and special features created for the ultimate Land Rover enthusiast. We’re looking forward to putting on a memorable adventure competition for our Defender Trophy Edition customers that will not only put these vehicles to the test but will also create a special shared experience honouring the rich heritage of the Land Rover brand.”
2022 Defender Trophy Edition unquestionably gets a nod to the legacy of the British brand and the Land Rover Defender. It does not only come as special because of its limited-edition units but also the subsequent power it can produce. So, if you want an off-road vehicle that brings an adrenaline rush, then a Defender Trophy could be that car. Not to mention the off-road competition you get to attend.
You get an off-road truck and even an off-road adventure. It doesn’t get better than this.
